From strong individual contributor to effective people leader

Strong performance does not automatically prepare someone to lead people well.

State of Becoming supports newly promoted and emerging leaders as they navigate the shift from doing the work well to leading others well with more clarity, self-awareness, communication skill, and trust.

Organizations often reward strong individual contributors by moving them into people-leading roles without giving them enough preparation for the relational, emotional, and behavioral demands of leadership.

Sometimes the person does not even want to lead people, but the promotion path makes it feel like the only way to grow.

The result is often predictable: new leaders feel unprepared, teams feel the impact, and organizations confuse technical excellence with leadership readiness.

State of Becoming helps close that gap.

Why This Matters

  • Preparing for people leadership before stepping fully into the role

What Makes This Different

This is not generic leadership coaching.

State of Becoming is grounded in the belief that leadership is not just about authority, results, or getting promoted. It is also about how your leadership is experienced relationally, emotionally, and behaviorally by the people you lead.

That is the part organizations often under-develop, and the part many leaders are left to figure out on their own.

My work helps leaders think clearly, build self-awareness, and grow into leadership with more intention, credibility, and trust.

Leadership is not just about results. It is about how people experience your leadership.

What This Is Not

This is not executive coaching for senior leaders.
It is not therapy.
It is not generic motivation or corporate fluff.

This work is for leaders and organizations that want something more honest, grounded, and useful.

Why State of Becoming

With experience across corporate leadership, education, nonprofit work, and community advocacy, I understand how often people are expected to lead without meaningful preparation for the human realities that come with it.

My background includes years at Toyota Motor North America, school- and community-based program leadership, and hands-on advocacy as a CASA volunteer.

Across those settings, one truth has remained constant: people leadership requires more than competence. It requires self-awareness, emotional intelligence, communication skill, and the ability to lead in ways that people can actually trust.

That is the lens I bring to this work.

Let’s talk about what support could look like.

Whether you are an individual stepping into people leadership or an organization looking to better prepare new and emerging leaders, State of Becoming offers thoughtful, people-centered support for the transition.
